Pokemon - Dark Explorers

Sunday, May 13th at 1:00pm • Sealed Tournament • $25.00 • Mothers (and Mr. Mothers) get $5.00 OFF of Entry Fee.
Each participant will receive 6 booster packs of the new set of Pokemon Trading Cards. They will have 50 minnutes to construct a 40 card deck (energy cards will be supplied). Matches will be organized in Swiss rounds with each pairing playing to the best 2 out of 3 games. Matches will be played with 4 rather than 6 prize cards. Each participant will win extra prize cards just for playing.
Avacyn Restored Release and Arena League Details

Avacyn Restored Release Event Draft - Friday 5/4 @ Midnight (Thursday into Friday)
We'll be celebrating the official release of Avacyn Restored by drafting as soon as we're possibly allowed (Friday at midnight). This ia slo when we'll begin selling product and singles. Promos will be provided as long as they last.
Entry: $15
Format: Draft
Prize Payout: 9-5-2-2-1-1 (8 Person Pod)

Avacyn Restored All Day Drafting – Saturday 5/5
Continuing our celebration of the Avacyn Restored release this weekend, we will be drafting all day long. Times and prices are as follows. Promos will be provided as long as they last.

Arena League
New Arena Leagues begin with every new set release. Players start with their 6 packs from one of the two Helvault Pre-Releases last weekend or with 6 packs they purchase specifically to buy in to Arena League. Using those cards, they construct a 40-card deck. They then play casual games against other Arena League players in the store, gaining two points for each win and one point for each loss. Every week players have the option of purchasing an additional pack to add into their pool of cards that they can use for the Arena League. Each week also brings a new rule that alters normal play rules for all players.
On June 16th the league ends and the top eight players are determined by the points they've accumulated over the season. Each of the top eight players receives a booster pack and plays single elimination games until a winner is determined. The winner receives free entry into the 2013 Core Set Pre-Release event and second places receives a free draft entry.
This season, additional points can be won by participating in special Arena League tournaments that will be held throughout the season.
Avacyn Restored Pre-Release Details

The Avacyn Restored Pre-Release is only a week away. The Pre-Release is everyone's first chance to receive and play with cards from the new Magic set Avacyn Restored. We will be holding four events next weekend (4/28-4/29). In addition to the events, we'll be bringing back our iron man drawing. In addition, two of the events will count as buy in for this release's Arena League.
The following week will be the official release of Avacyn Restored. We'll be holding a midnight draft at 12am on Friday (as Thursday becomes Friday) and will start selling Avacyn Restored packs, boxes, and singles at that time as well as fulfilling Pre-Orders. We'll also have all day drafting that Saturday (5/5).

Helvault Pre-Releases – Saturday 4/28 @ Midnight and Noon
Wizards has provided a special Helvault (pictured with this post) filled with unknown prizes. As we play through this event the Helvault will slowly be opened to reveal its contents.
Entry for the Helvault releases is limited to 54. Players can pre-register online by purchasing the item at http://www.criticalhitgames.net/catalog/magic/394 or in the store. Entry is $25.
These will be sealed events. Players will receive 6 packs of Avacyn Restored and have an hour to build a deck using only cards from their packs and additional lands that we will supply. Participants keep all cards from their packs. At the end of the event additional prize packs will be awarded based on win record.
Entry: $25
Format: Sealed, Swiss (Six packs of Avacyn Restored will be given to each player. Players must build a deck using only the cards in their packs and additional basic lands)
Prize Payout: 2.5 boxes minimum to be distributed based on player records.
Two-Headed Giant Pre-Releases – Saturday 4/28 @ 7:00 pm & Sunday 4/29 @ 1:00 pm
Bring a friend and try out the new release as a team. The Two-Headed Giant event at the last Pre-Release was a ton of fun so we're running two this time around. Entry will be capped at 30 teams (60 players).
Each two-player team will receive 8 packs of Avacyn Restored and will have 1 hour to build two 40-card decks using only cards from the provided packs (extra land cards will be provided). Specific rules regarding this format can be found at http://mtg.wikia.com/wiki/Two-Headed_Giant.
Entry: $32/team - $16/person
Format: Sealed, Swiss, Two-Headed Giant
Prize Payout: 4 pack/team added to pool
Iron Man Drawing
All players who participate in three of the five events being held during Pre-Release weekend will be entered into a drawing for a box of Avacyn Restored. For each event over three a player participates in, they will be entered into the drawing an additional time.
Eligible events include Friday Night Magic, both Avacyn Restored Helvault events, and both Avacyn Restored Two-Headed Giant events.
The drawing for the box will be held at the midnight Avacyn Restored release draft on 5/4. If the winner is not present the box will be held for them.

Magic Sealed Event

Saturday (3/24) at 2:00 pm we'll be holding an Innistrad block sealed event. Entry is $24 and we'll be adding two and a half packs into the prize pool for each entry. This will likely be our last Magic sealed event before Avacyn Restored launches and switches up the format.

Pokemon Next Destinies Sealed

This Sunday (2/19) we'll be holding a sealed event to celebrate the recent release of the Pokemon Next Destinies set. Sign-up starts at noon and the event starts at 1pm.
In the event, players will receive 6 packs of Next Destinies to build their decks with. All players will receive 2 additional packs at the end of the tournament for participating. Entry is $25.
For those who haven't checked the new set out yet, it includes many Pokemon from outside of the Unova region and six rare Pokemon-EX cards.
Gamicon! Now!

We're at Gamicon right now with a big selection of old D&D books and modules that we haven't had out on our shelves at the shop yet. We're also giving out discounts for in-store and online shopping.

We have some additional details regarding our Pre-Release events.
Iron Man Challenge
Our new tradition, the Iron Man Challenge, will take place again. Everyone who participates in three Magic events between Friday 1/27 and Sunday 1/29 will be entered into a drawing for a free box of Dark Ascension. For every event over three that someone participates in, they will receive an additional entry. Eligible events include Friday Night Magic, all three Pre-Release Events, and EDH/Commander on Saturday. Check our Events page for more info on these events.
Gamicon - Magic Events and Free Entry Opportunities
Additionally, we want everyone to go to Gamicon on 2/13 - 2/15 and stop by our booth! Gamicon is Iowa City's own gaming convention held annually at the IMU. This year is the 21st installment of this convention, making it the oldest gaming convention in Eastern Iowa. On Saturday we'll be holding back-to-back Dark Ascension drafts. To ensure we see some familiar faces, we'll be giving out one free Gamicon Saturday pass to the winner of each of our sealed Pre-Release events.
Those who don't win a free pass should consider purchasing their own one-day or three-day pass. In addition to $9 drafts with blind bag prizes, we'll also be offering some discounts and promotions to attendees. For more informaiton on Gamicon, visit http://gamicon.org.

Inventory Notice! Patience Please...

We're still working our way through inventorying everything in our shop. While we finish getting everything into the system please be aware of the following:
- Older Magic singles and foils are not all in the system yet.
- Until older Magic cards are in our system, these older sets will not show up on our online buylist. We are still interested in buying older cards but will have to do so in-store for the time being.
- More of the products we carry (WarMachine/Hordes) will be in the webshop, they're just not in quite yet.

Welcome to the new Critical Hit Games website. We're exctied to unveil our new online store and hope everyone is ready to take advantage of the new capabilities the online shop offers. You can browse our inventory, see what Magic singles we're currently buying, sell us cards, check your store credit balance, and have items sent directly to your door or set aside for in-store pick-up.
To keep locals informed of what's going on in the store, we've migrated and adapted the content from our old website to our new site. News and announcments will be posted right here and our event calendar can be accessed through the event link at the top of this page.
Keep your eyes out for online coupons. They may show up in our store, or on our Facebook pages, or at this year's Gamicon gaming convention (hint: Gamicon attendees will receive a deal so make sure you pre-reg for it).
